Analisis Film The Other Boleyn Girl


THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL.
The Other Boleyn Girl is a film adapted from a historical fiction novel wich written by Phippa Gregory. This film is directed by Justin Chadwick, and starring by Natalie Portman (as Anna Boleyn), Scarlett Johansson (as Mary Boleyn), and Eric Bana (as King Henry Tudor VIII of England). This film release on February 2008.
This film tells about romance, betrayal, and ambition to get a power. The tragedy happens when two beautiful sisters, Anne and Mary Boleyn, driven by their family's bad ambition, compete for the love of the handsome and passionate King Henry Tudor VIII.

 
1.     PLOT.
   The introduction of the film is when Anna, Mary, and George (Jim Sturgess) were playing at grassland, they were chased each other. They were children and they were very happy at that time. While they were watching the children play, Sir Thomas Boleyn told to his wife that a merchant named Carey wanted their daughter Anne to be betrothed to his son William Carey, but Sir Thomas offered them Mary instead.
   The raising of the film is when Catherine of Aragon fails to produce a male heir to the English throne. Knowing about this problem Duke of Norfolk scheme to install Anne as the King’s mistress, and to produce a male. Their plan changes when Henry, injured in a hunting accident indirectly caused by Anne, is nursed by her sister Mary and King Henry becomes falling in love with her. And Mary finds herself falling in love with Henry. When Mary pregnant she nearly suffers a miscarriage, she is confined to bed for the remainder of her pregnancy, and Norfolk calls Anne to go to court and to keep Henry's attention from another girls. Anne seduce King Henry successfully, but she want more, she want to be a queen of England. She has been to step aside the Queen of England, Kathrine of Aragon successfully.
   The climax of the film is when Anne was miscarriage of her son, Anne beged George to commit incest with her to becomes pregnant and got a child (son) , George agrees. But  they didn’t commiting incest. Jane (Juno Temple), George’s wife saw it and she reports what she had seen to the King Henry Tudor VIII. The king becomes angry, he didn’t knew the truth. Anne and George were executed because they were accused guilty. George’s head was beheaded first, and then Anne.
   The falling action happens after the beheading, Mary took Elizabeth to go to Rochford with her. Wretched and disgraced, Sir Thomas Boleyn died two years later. The Duke of Norfolk was imprisoned. The next three generations of his family -son, grandson, great grandson- they were all executed for treason. Henry’s decision to break with the Catholic church changed the face England Forever.
   Resolution happens when Mary married William Stafford and lived happily with him away from court for the rest of her life. Henry’s fear of living England without a strong successor turned out to be unfounded. Hih did leave an heir, who was rule over England fourty-five years. It wasn’t the boy he yearned for, but the strong red-haired girl Anne gave him.

2.      ARCHETYPAL ELEMENT.
· Setting :
   Paradise.
   In this film paradise represent when Anne, Mary, and George were playing together in gressland. It is the place where make them happy and safe. It is the place for the main character playing together with family happily.  It’s also the place where there is no enemy. There is a perfect place.
   Hell.
   There is a bed place. In this film to represent the hell is when George and Anne in the jail. There is a place where a lot of stress, and the fear to waiting to be executed.

· Symbols.
The symbols of this film is the gold “B” necklace that Anne is always wearing. The necklace shows that she is descendant of Boleyn.
 
1.    Main  Character.
   Anne Boleyn is the charmer, she is atractrive person and good-looking, Henry Percy fell in love with her when at the Mary wedding party, he attrached with her beauty. She is the tyrant, she ccontrols The King to do everything she want. And she is also the temptress, she able to tempt The King and Henry Percy.

   Mary Boleyn is the charmer, temptress and she is madonna. She is able to tempt William Cary, The King, and William Stafford with her girly and her beauty. She also best-friend, she will to do anything to help someone she loves.
  
   King Henry Tudor VIII is alpha male and the charmer, he is good-looking, powerfull and he can do whatever he wants. He can lure any girl with his ​​charms and make ​​them as his mistress. But he is lust, he can not resist his lust when he saw a beautyful women.
   George Boleyn is best-friend. He is always help his sisters when they in problem. He was willing to do incest with Anne, because he didn’t want to see Anne in sadness.

Sir Thomas Boleyn and The Duke of Norfolk are the terrorist, they are too ambitious to be rich, and respectable.

2.     Conflict.
Man against himself.
   It shown when Anne would be a mistress, first she didn’t agree, but finally she is relented to do what her father and her uncle want.
Man against society.
   It shown when Anne has married with The King many people against Anne. The people outside the court called Anne as a witch.
